Victor Webanyama Has More BLOOK SHOTS This Season Than Rudy Gobert Has In His Last Two Seasons!
Did you know Mark Eaton in 1985, had 456 block shots in just one NBA season. Wemby is good but he has a ways to go!

I think we can all agree that Victor Webanyama has been nothing short of brilliant on the defense end of the court during his rookie season. In fact, at the time this article was written Webanyama had 252 block shots this season versus Rudy Goberts 251 in his last two seasons.
Now to put Wembys dominance in perspective, he has 66 more blocks this season than both Brook Lopez and Chet Holmgren who each have 186 blocks to date. During the 2022-23 Lopez led the league with 193 block shots.
Check out this 8-minute Golden Hoops video of Wemby blocking the entire league.
So you might be asking yourself where Wemby stands historically against the great shot blockers of the past.
As you can see Wemby has a long way to go if he's ever going to come close to breaking into the top of the great shot blockers of the NBA. Now to be fair to Wemby, he's playing in the 3-point happy era which was something that I'm sure Mark Eaton, the all-time single-season leader in block shots could have never imagined.
In Webanyama's rookie season, he is averaging 3.6 block shots per game. Eaton in 1985, averaged 5.5 blocks per game so for Wemby to beat the record next season, he would have to play in all 82 games and average 5.6 blocks a game.
THE UNDERRATED LINE:
Having watched Wemby extensively after the all-star break, I can say that he improved considerably on both sides of the court and it would not surprise me to see him average around 4.5 blocks a game next season.
In terms of him someday breaking into the top 10 regular season leaders of block shots, yes I think he will do that if he stays healthy, but leaping to 5.6 for 82 games seems like a bit of a stretch even for a guy as tall and dominant as Webanyama, but it sure will be entertaining to watch him try.
