Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire Scores ASTONISHING $80M OPENING WEEKEND
Fun, dumb, and highly entertaining sum up the latest MonsterVerse installment
Apr 1, 2024
The Titans make a dramatic comeback in "Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire," the latest chapter in the MonsterVerse saga. Maybe the best way to describe the movie is to point out that the movie is fun, dumb, and highly entertaining all at the same time.
At the box office the Titans flat-out destroyed the Ghosts of Ghost Busters in its opening weekend generating $80M vs $16M that Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire pulled in.
This film, helmed by Adam Wingard, the director of the 2021 hit "Godzilla vs. Kong," pits the King of the Monsters against the King of the Beasts as they face a new formidable threat. The MonsterVerse has evolved through various directors, but if you've seen "Godzilla vs. Kong," you likely anticipate another epic showdown, filled with the trademark over-the-top kaiju action and spectacle that you'd expect to see from this type of film.
While some of the jokes and dialogue may become tiresome, "Godzilla x Kong" offers numerous captivating moments that make it a worthwhile watch. The film shines during its monster action sequences, especially when showcasing Kong's formidable combat skills against other monsters. That was a sentence I thought I'd never write.
"Godzilla x Kong" excels at provoking strong reactions from audiences. The film cleverly blends humor with the absurdity of these epic monster battles, resulting in some semi-memorable fight moments between The Titans.
The bottom line is Wingard, did an excellent job directing a movie between two Titans who simply don't like each other. He created an enjoyable, entertaining, dumb, and fun movie that I'm sure will turn into a global hit.
