It is not surprising that Klay Thompson has been signed off the monopoly board of free agents within 24 hours. What will come as a shock to both Warriors and Lakers fans is that he chose to play with the Dallas Mavericks.

Thompson, famous for taking his boat to home games in San Francisco, will find that sort of transportation more difficult, considering the Mavs play in a land-locked arena. He signed a 3-year deal worth $50 Million and will now join Luka, Kyrie, and the rest of the Western Conference Champs in Dallas.

From a career standpoint, the five-time all-star is coming off his worst statistical season since becoming a splash brother; Thompson averaged 17.9 points a game this season on 38.7% from the 3-point arc. Still, Thompson might benefit from a new system and change of scenery, and on paper, this is an excellent deal for the Mavs, who get Klay Thompson for just $16.6 million per year.

Considering that James Harden is making $35 Million a year and last season averaged 16.6 points a game, this is a great deal to secure the services of one of the greatest all-time shooters in the history of the NBA. Thompson needs 79 made 3s to catch Reggie Miller for fifth place on the career 3-point field goals list. Thompson, who made 268 3-pointers last season, could move into second place on the all-time list by the end of his 3-year deal with the Mavs.
