THE BILL BELICHICK IRON FIST CONUNDRUM TURNS TO PAT MCAFEE

So far this week, Bill Belichick has been popular. Stories and podcasts about the Falcons, Cowboys, Eagles, Robert Kraft, Jerry Jones, and a pending deal with Peyton Mannings Omaha Productions have all made their way into the public eye.

It must be yet another surreal week in Bill Belichick’s Iron Fist world.

Reports are swirling around Belichick like trash in the air at the old San Francisco Giants Stadium Candlestick Park, from former owners warning potential owners not to hire him to Pat McAfee announcing to the world that Belichick will be joining his cast of characters for the NFL Draft next week in Detroit.

So far this week, stories and podcasts about the Falcons, Cowboys, Eagles, Robert Kraft, Jerry Jones, and a pending deal with Peyton Mannings Omaha Productions have all made their way into the public eye.

Belichick, who ruled the New England Patriots organization with an iron fist, has had a rough time finding a new head coach job in the NFL, which should not surprise anyone because of his management style. That’s not to say his style wasn’t successful in the past, but rather, in the modern NFL world, he will need to modify his iron-fist mentality if he is going to land another head coaching gig. Think of Belichick as a retail store, and now he has to compete with online retailers like Amazon to get customers.

Simply put, Belichick's old way of doing things appears no longer acceptable to most NFL owners. That’s not to say he won’t land a gig in the NFL again someday.

Enter Jerry Jones of the Dallas Cowboys, who said this back in January:

“We all know that he’s certainly excellent, maybe at the top of his profession,” Jones said. “To say that any one person automatically assures you a Super Bowl is ridiculous. That’s too high an expectation for him. But is he maybe the greatest pro football coach of all time? Could very well be.

“He is a friend and I like him and I want to make real clear: I wouldn’t have any problem working with him.”

Comments like these must leave current Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy wondering if he should be searching for property outside of Texas sooner rather than later.

As for the bombshell of the week, Belichick was yet again in the news for all the wrong reasons; this time, a report surfaced and centered around Arthur Blank, the owner of the Atlanta Falcons, having a candid conversation with his former boss, Robert Craft who reportedly warned Falcons owner not to trust Belichick when he was interviewing for the Falcons head coaching opening.

According to a source who spoke to two people, a close Kraft friend, and a longtime Belichick confidant, Kraft delivered a stark assessment of Belichick's character in a conversation with Blank. The Belichick source is quoted as saying, "Robert called Arthur to warn him not to trust Bill." That account was backed up, the source said, by a close Kraft friend.

Multiple sources said that Kraft spoke with "some candor" to Blank about Belichick, though the sources declined to elaborate. One source close to Belichick said Kraft "was a big part" of why the Falcons passed on hiring him.

THE UNDERRATED LINE:
The conundrum that is Bill Belichick’s iron fist has finally caught up to him to the point that the only team that seems somewhat interested happens to have a head coach who has led them to 3 consecutive regular season records of 12 and 5.

At this point, Belichick is doing what most successful former coaches do when they can’t find a gig: trying his hand at TV while he waits patiently for his red ‘head coaching hotline’ to ring, but will it ever ring?
