Sacramento Kings G League coach Lindsey Harding is set to interview for the Charlotte Hornets' head-coaching position, as sources informed ESPN earlier in the week.

Now, regardless of your race, gender, or religious beliefs, becoming a head coach in the NBA is certainly a challenge for anyone. Remember there are just 30 head coach opportunities in the NBA and with teams now each carrying north of 7 assistants there certainly is a significant pool of coaches who deserve an opportunity.

During her debut season as head coach of the Stockton Kings, Harding earned the 2024 G League Coach of the Year award and guided her team to the Western Conference finals. Charlotte was granted permission on Monday to interview her for the head-coaching role, according to sources.

Additionally, LA Clippers assistant Jay Larranaga is also scheduled to interview for the Hornets' vacancy, sources told ESPN. Larranaga has served on Ty Lue's staff for three seasons following nine years with the Boston Celtics under Brad Stevens and Doc Rivers.

The Hornets' current head coach Steve Clifford will transition into a front-office position at the conclusion of the season, enabling the new executive vice president of basketball operations Jeff Peterson to begin the search process.

Peterson has already been granted permission to interview Denver Nuggets assistant David Adelman, Kings assistant Jordi Fernandez, Boston Celtics assistant Charles Lee, and Phoenix Suns assistant Kevin Young, sources informed ESPN.

THE UNDERRATED LINE:
Will Harding become the first women's NBA head coach, will South Carolina's head coach Dawn Staley also throw her hat into the pool of qualified candidates, who knows? But I think the very idea of women coaching in the NBA used to feel so foreign, but now it looks like it will become a reality sooner rather than later, and that my friends is a good thing.
