The Green Bay Packers are officially on the new contract clock with their rising star quarterback, Jordan Love.
"Packers GM Brian Gutekunst said QB Jordan Love will not practice until the two sides can get done the contract extension that they’ve been working on," ESPN's Adam Schefter reported on Monday morning.
The Athletic's Dianna Russini wrote: "Both the Green Bay Packers and Jordan Love’s reps have had plenty of conversations. These talks are positive discussions about his new contract and everyone involved shares in the belief they are close but nothing has been finalized."
THE UNDERRATED OPINION
It always amazes me when a team takes its time to get a deal with a key player. In this case, you can understand why the Packers wanted to watch other comparable QBs score their new deals first, but to enter training camp with Jordan Love forced to hold out is a horrible move by the Packers' management.
Simply put, Love's contract should have been handled before training camp started. I guess the real question is, what kind of contract negotiation advantage do the Packers think they have in forcing a holdout? The reality is Love is going to get paid significantly, so why not avoid the sideshow and get it done before the start of training camp?
