In his own words, Jalen Brunson called the Knicks win today a little ugly and scrappy.
"We just kept fighting and found a way to win," Brunson told ESPN's Cassidy Hubbarth after the game. "It was a little ugly, scrappy, but we just stayed connected and found a way."
Jalen Brunson basically got out of the car and pushed it up the hill to lead the New York Knicks to a 97-92 win over the Philadelphia 76ers today in Philadelphia. In the process, he set a Knicks playoff franchise record by scoring 47 points. He beat the previous Knicks playoff record set by Bernard King (twice) in 1984.
He also became the first player in Knicks postseason history to have a 40-point, 10-assist game.
The Knicks are up 3-1 in the series and head back to MSG on Tuesday.
Something I thought I would never hear in Philadelphia, was chants for MVP for an opposing player, but by the end of the game, the crowd which was basically split 50/50 did echo with Brunson “MVP” chants throughout Wells Fargo Center.
After the game, Stephen A. Smith said "Go New York, go New York, go!" Smith exclaimed. "Three down. Three down, one to go. Yes!"
THE UNDERRATED OPINION
Jalen Brunson is on fire. There is simply no other way to describe how he has been playing since it became clear that Julius Randell would miss the rest of the postseason. Scrappy and ugly is a good description of his game, but add in his fiery personality, and who knows how far he will be able to lead the Knicks this post-season.
