Inspired by the unbelievable true story, a strait-laced professor (Glen Powell) uncovers his hidden talent as a fake hit man in undercover police stings. He meets his match in a client (Adria Arjona) who steals his heart and ignites a powder keg of deception, delight, and mixed-up identities.

From Academy Award-nominated writer/director Richard Linklater and co-written by Glen Powell, HIT MAN comes to select theaters in May and only on Netflix June 7.

Based on a 2001 Texas Monthly article by Skip Hollandsworth, "Hit Man" follows Gary as he exploits people's fascination with professional assassins. While such individuals don't exist in reality, as Richard Linklater, co-author and star, recently explained to Entertainment Weekly, they are prevalent in movies and TV shows, leading many would-be criminals to believe hiring a killer is easy. Gary assists the local police in catching these individuals by convincingly posing as a hitman. To achieve this, he must understand their desires and cater to their fantasies.

This sometimes involves dressing in stark contrast to his target's persona. Other times, such as when a character prefers to conduct business while skeet shooting, Gary must mimic their style to gain their trust.

“A lot of this movie is really about the way we label ourselves, and the way we see ourselves moving through the world,” Powell tells Entertainment Weekly. “Gary is a man who’s moving through the world without an identity, so to speak. He just is attracted to what he is attracted to. He loves ornithology, he loves audio A/V equipment. He’s fascinated by a lot, but passionate about little. He doesn't put any thought into the presentational part of his life, except when he is in these sting operations.”

“They got weirder and weirder,” Linklater says of Gary’s disguises. “Glen would need an extra couple hours of hair and makeup while we were setting up. It was the only time we were waiting. And Glen would get out of the van or something, we would see him and the whole crew would just go, ‘What the f---?! Is that Glen?’”
