As the NFL season is now less than 100 days away, a surprising revelation came out of Drew Brees' camp earlier in the week: He revealed that he wants to get back into broadcasting.

“The thing that I wanted to do most that I felt like I could bring the most value at was broadcasting NFL games,” Brees said, emphasizing each of the last three words. “And it was the thing I had the least opportunity to do, right? I was able to do a little bit of college at Notre Dame. Just two NFL games broadcasting that were eight weeks apart and then the studio stuff, right? But, man, I love the game and I would love to broadcast NFL games, you know, at some point again. I think I could be the best at it.”

“Yep, I said it,” Brees wrote in reposting the video. “SNF, MNF or Thursday Night Football. Come get me when you’re ready! Until then I’m coaching ball.”

Brees, who, after one season with NBC 2021-2022, reportedly walked away from broadcasting to spend more time with his family, has apparently had enough family time and now wants back into one of the major broadcast booths, which, as you might imagine, are all full at this point. Brees is angling for the jobs Aikman, Collinsworth, or Herbstreit currently holds.

From a No. 1 broadcast perspective, short of Chris Collinsworth suddenly retiring, Brees will have to work his way into a No. 1 spot but start out on either a No. 2, No. 3, or No. 4 team at CBS or Fox. Unless the family man is actually really just putting his name into the Netflix Christmas Day broadcast hopper.

THE UNDERRATED OPINION
Normally, the best way to get back on air would be to sit down with your agent and make a few phone calls. Still, Brees's decision to mention it during his New Orleans Saints Hall of Fame announcement press conference basically indicates that he either just decided on the spot to throw it out there or that, so far, there has not been any interest from the networks who may have been contacted through traditional means.

Either way, I think it would be great to see Brees get another shot at calling games, and I'm sure it will happen at some point, but he will most likely have to do so starting off on a B or C team.
