I know this statement will rub some Jacksonville Jaguars fans the wrong way, but the fact is Trevor Lawrence is overrated.
Let's face it: great quarterbacks are hard to come by, but for Trevor Lawrence to score $55 Million seems like a stretch considering his performance last season. Clearly, the Jaguars didn't see it that way and reached a 5-year deal worth $275M — $55M a year — with $200M guaranteed.
THE UNDERRATED OPINION
When I saw this deal, I wasn't surprised as I assumed the Jags were going to overpay significantly for Lawrence, who now makes the same amount of money yearly as Joe Burrow. Assuming Burrow stays healthy, who would you rather have under center on your team—Lawrence or Burrow? The answer to that question is clearly Burrow, and it's not even close.
While Lawrence has shown flashes of brilliance, he regressed last season with 14 interceptions and getting sacked 35 times.
Lawrence has the talent to be a great quarterback someday, but for now, I consider Lawrence the highest-paid, underperforming quarterback in the NFL.
