DID JOSH ALLEN BACKSTAB STEFON DIGGS?

Being accused of turning your back on a teammate is never a position that a star quarterback wants to be in. Still, the reality of the NFL and its business can sometimes make it almost impossible for a leader to support a player staying or going directly.

Being accused of turning your back on a teammate is never a position that a star quarterback wants to be in. Still, the reality of the NFL and its business can sometimes make it almost impossible for a leader to support a player staying or going directly.

The subtleties of whether or not a player has been backstabbed are, in most cases, a grey area of discussion. So, we turn our attention to the question: Did Josh Allen backstab Stefon Diggs on the way out the door?

Despite widespread speculation among football fans that Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen played a role in the team's decision to trade wide receiver Stefon Diggs to the Houston Texans, Allen himself has indicated otherwise.

In a press conference on Thursday, Allen expressed his deep appreciation for Diggs, stating that he holds a special place in his heart for him and will always love him like a brother. Allen attributed the trade to "the nature of the business," suggesting that it was a decision driven by factors beyond his control.

“I guess that’s the nature of the business,” Allen said, via the team's social media account. “And going into Year 7 now, it just kind of is what it is. I don’t get paid to make changes on the team, I get paid to be the best quarterback that I can be and try to lead the guys on this team.”

Normally, when someone says something like, ‘I don’t get paid to make changes on the team,’ that is a leading indicator that they didn’t support the player in question.

“Yeah, I shared a text with him and got one back, just thanking him for everything that he did for me,” Allen said. “I’ll always have a spot in my heart for him and I’ll always love him like a brother and wish him nothing but the best.”

“You look at the statistics, they don’t lie — numbers don’t lie,” Allen said about Diggs. “But like I said a few minutes ago, it’s an opportunity for those guys we have in our room, bringing in guys like Curtis [Samuel] and Mack [Hollins] and having Khalil [Shakir] and Dalton [Kincaid] and Dawson [Knox] — guys who have been in the system for a while that know how things go. And within the system, anybody can get the ball at any given time.

“These guys are very excited for that. They’re working extremely hard. It’s good to see those guys here and getting to know some of these younger guys better. And looking forward to getting to know them as best as I can so we can use that on the field.”

THE UNDERRATED OPINION
Over his years in Buffalo, there were times when Diggs appeared unhappy, and it is clear, as water is wet, that Diggs wanted out. Did Josh Allen directly or indirectly support Diggs staying? Regardless of what Allen says publicly, the blurred writing on the wall indicates that, at the very least, Allen indirectly did not have a problem with the Bills shipping Diggs out of town.

I’m not saying Allen walked into the Bills' offices and demanded Diggs be traded; rather, I’m saying when the team floated the idea of trading Diggs, he most likely gave the Bills management team a speech about how he plays quarterback and doesn't get paid to make player changes on the team.

Whether or not Allen backstabbed Diggs, one thing is clear: Diggs wanted out, and Allen, who is the leader of the team on the field, was unable to solve Diggs's issues. But, hey, then again, Diggs is a wide receiver who rarely seems to be satisfied.
